Taking information from a digital and verbal medium and trying to store it into our long term memory is always a problem. Finding ways to trick our brain into learning and convincing it that the information that we are telling it is important things one can learn about themselves. One such way that I really enjoy is a method called sketch noting. The premise is based around the dual code theory which states that in order for information to be retained it must take up two different channels of the brain when being received. In this case we are aiming to reach visual side as well as the auditory side when we are told information. When we draw out our notes in such a fashion it slows down how fast our brain is working and gives it a chance to “marinade” in the information. Adding creative pictures that are related to the information helps create a visual map in our minds which leads to better concentration. Below is a simple sketch note I made outlining the basics of the idea. I found it extremely helpful (and fun) for remembering the concept!
