For a while I have really wanted to get into baking. My goal during the months of quarantine has been to make my own sourdough loaf from scratch but I never got around to it. All of my life I had been interested in cooking but had never dabbled in “forbidden dark arts” of baking. It was a mystery to me. The thought of following specific instructions to the letter seemed so confining and daunting. It wasn’t until I finally had some free time that quarantine gave me that I decided to dip my finger into this new world. I found that my previous chemistry training served me well here! My first thoughts were, “wow this is just like being in a lab, instead of measuring our 150mL of HCl im measuring out 150mL of cream”. As we all know cream is much better to play around with then Hydrochloric Acid. I thought it would be a fun activity to take advantage of this self inquiry study and put together a little baking book of my favourite recipes I have tried to bake. Hopefully I can discover and refine a few different things to eat. My goals are to have a time away from my computer, have some stress relief, and end up making some delicious treats. Hopefully I end up finding my new favourite recipe that will stick with me my whole life! I am looking forward to this journey!
